Brady Applauds Signage of Colorado State Ghost Gun Bill

New law will prohibit the sale, purchase, and possession of unserialized firearms also known as “ghost guns”.

Washington, D.C., June 2, 2023 – Today, on Gun Violence Awareness Day, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed into law a bill that would prohibit the sale and possession of unserialized “ghost guns” and the unregulated parts and kits used to build them. Brady, the oldest national gun violence prevention organization, has endorsed and worked alongside state lawmakers, national and local partners, Brady grassroots volunteers, and members of Team ENOUGH on this vital legislation.

Brady President Kris Brown stated:

"Ghost guns pose a unique and severe threat to the safety of our communities. Anyone can purchase the parts to assemble the untraceable firearms – including minors and prohibited purchasers who would otherwise fail to pass a background check. In recent years, ghost guns have wreaked havoc in communities across the country and in Colorado. Shutting down access to these unregulated parts is critical to preventing further violence and trauma.

“Brady applauds Gov. Polis for signing this bill into law, and thanks all bill sponsors and champions for helping this arrive on the governor’s desk.”
